Renewing Applicants

Renewing Applicants – BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

Concealed Handgun Permit holders should contact the Park County Sheriff’s Office CHP Specialist at 719-836-4109 not more than 120 days prior to the expiration of a Concealed Handgun Permit.  Renewals are by appointment only.

Before calling for an appointment, can you answer YES to these questions?

  • Are you within the renewal period?
  • Does your driver’s license show a Park County address?
  • (Effective July 1, 2025)   Do you have the original certificate from a Sheriff’s Office Verified Instructor that shows you completed a (minimum) 2-hour Concealed Handgun Permit Concealed Handgun Refresher Class?  (Class must include a written and a live-fire test).

A permit that is not renewed prior to expiration will be considered invalid.   There is an option to renew an expired Concealed Handgun Permit within six months after the expiration date with a late fee of $15.  If the permit is expired for more than six months, and you wish to carry a concealed handgun, you will follow the instructions for applying for a new Concealed Handgun Permit.

Renewal appointments generally take approximately 10 – 15 minutes.   During the appointment, we will witness the signing of your completed CHP Application, review the application for missed information or clarification, make a copy of your original certificate from a Sheriff’s Office Verified Instructor showing you completed the Concealed Handgun Refresher Class, make a copy of your driver’s license and accept your payments.  The fee is $50 for the permit and $13 for the CBI background investigation.  Separate payments if you are paying by personal check or money order, both made payable to PCSO or Park County Sheriff’s Office.  We also accept cash as well as Visa or Mastercard for a $3.95 convenience fee.   As stated above, the fee for an expired permit (within six months) will be $65.  We will also take an updated photograph.

Per statute, the Sheriff’s Office is obligated to approve or deny your renewal application within 90 days.

The acceptance of your application DOES NOT give you temporary permission to carry a concealed handgun.  You may not carry a concealed handgun until you receive the actual permit.
