New Applicant

New Applicants> – BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

Before calling for an appointment, can you answer YES to these questions?

  • Are you 21 years of age or older?
  • Does your driver’s license show a Park County address?
  • (Effective July 1, 2025)   Do you have the original certificate from a Sheriff’s Office Verified Instructor that shows you completed and passed a (minimum) 8-hour Concealed Handgun Permit Safety Class?  (Class must include a written and a live-fire test).

If you have answered yes to the questions above and are interested in applying for a Concealed Handgun Permit, please contact the Park County Sheriff’s Office CHP Specialist at 719-836-4109.  Applications are accepted by appointment only.

Appointments generally take approximately 30 minutes.  During the appointment, we will witness the signing of your completed CHP Application, review the application for missed information or clarification, make a copy of your original certificate from a Sheriff’s Office Verified Instructor showing you completed and passed the (minimum) 8-hour Concealed Handgun Safety Class, make a copy of your driver’s license and accept your payments.  The fee is $100 for the permit and $52.50 for the CBI background investigation.  Separate payments if you are paying by personal check or money order, both made payable to PCSO or Park County Sheriff’s Office. We also accept cash as well as Visa or Mastercard for a $3.95 convenience fee.  We will take your photograph, and you’ll have your fingerprints taken for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation background investigation.

Per statute, the Sheriff’s Office is obligated to approve or deny your application within 90 days. The acceptance of your application DOES NOT give you temporary permission to carry a concealed handgun.  You may not carry a concealed handgun until you receive the actual permit.
