Volunteer Opportunities

Park County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services program is actively accepting applications for volunteer positions. Park County residents are preferred; however residents of Jefferson, Teller, Fremont, and Chaffee counties are welcome to apply if you are within a reasonable proximity of the Park County line. All volunteers are subjected to a background investigation, initiated by the Sheriff’s Office, and conducted by a contract service provider called TruDiligence. Once the background check has been found clear, volunteers are “sworn in” by The Sheriff and are considered volunteer employees of the Park County Sheriff’s Office to work with the Victim Services program. Volunteers who successfully pass the background check are asked to:

  1. Commit to one year of service.
  2. Complete a 40 hours online training course, self-paced.
  3. Attend at least one volunteer meeting/training session per quarter.
  4. Be available at least one weekend per month to respond to any incidents in which law enforcement requests that a victim advocate respond to the scene of a crime (This requirement has some flexibility, however. One weekend equates to 60 hours of on-call coverage. Please feel free to discuss with us your availability, and how we may flex that 60 hours of coverage out into evenings during the week, or some other combination of 12 hours increments).
  5. Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  6. Must be comfortable with navigating remote areas of Park County during nighttime hours.
  7. Must be able to provide trauma-informed response to crime victims, free of judgement, and in a professional & empathetic manner.

We welcome any questions you may have about these requirements, as well as any other general information about our volunteer program. Please contact Josh Hanover at 719-836-4110 or joshua.hanover@parkcountyco.gov to answer question and/or to begin the application process.
