[ARCHIVED] Park County Concludes Public Tour for Short-Term Rental (STR) Ordinance Review

Park County Concludes Public Tour for Short-Term Rental (STR) Ordinance Review

Park County, CO – Park County has successfully wrapped up its public tour aimed at gathering community feedback on the Short-Term Rental (STR) Ordinance, originally adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in January 2021. The series of community meetings, held across multiple locations, provided residents with the opportunity to voice their opinions and suggestions regarding the current STR regulations.

From September 25 to October 28, 2024, residents participated in discussions at various venues including the Lake George Community Center, Fairplay Community Center, and others. Attendees shared their experiences and insights, contributing valuable perspectives that will inform the upcoming revisions to the ordinance.

"We want to extend our gratitude to all who participated in these meetings," said Mike Smith, Interim County Manager. "Your feedback is crucial as we seek to ensure that our STR regulations meet the needs of our community while balancing tourism and residential concerns."

The next steps in the review process will occur over the coming months:

  • November 2024: Park County will issue a report of the results of the tour and survey.
  • December 2024: The STR ordinance will be revised based on the input received during the public meetings and through the community survey. A public comment period will follow, providing both online and in-person opportunities for additional feedback.
  • January - February 2025: Final revisions will be made, and the draft ordinance will be presented to the Planning Commission for consideration and recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners.
  • March 2025: The Board will seek to adopt the revised STR ordinance.
  • Implementation: County officials and staff will begin to implement and enforce the mandates and policies defined by the new STR ordinance in accordance with an effective date to be determined by the BOCC at the time of adoption.

Residents are encouraged and invited to stay informed and involved throughout this process. Additionally, the community survey remains open until November 6, please share your thoughts by visiting: Park County Short-Term Rental (STR) Community Survey.
