Park County, CO - The Park County Coroner released the following statement today, "On Wednesday October 2nd the Park County Coroner Office responded to a report of missing persons and a fatal ATV Crash in the National Forest near the Park County and Teller County line. This was a multi-agency response in extremely rough terrain.
The Park County Coroner Office has scientifically identified and can confirm that Shelley Maree Ekstrom a 60 year-old female of Conifer, CO died as the result of an ATV crash. Her Next-of-Kin have been notified and we wish to express our condolences.
The Park County Coroners Office has determined that Ms. Ekstrom died on Tuesday night October 1 and was found and recovered on the morning of October 3.
We want to thank all the agencies that worked so well together on this difficult incident. Park County Sheriff's Office, Park County Search & Rescue, Park County 911 Dispatch, Lake George Fire Protection District, Ute Pass Regional Ambulance and Flight for Life Colorado."
The Park County Sheriff's office added, "We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy. The loss of life is never easy, and our thoughts are with those grieving.
We want to acknowledge the dedication and efforts of the Park County Search and Rescue, Park County Sheriff’s Deputies, Park County Coroners Office, and the Lake George Fire Protection District, who worked tirelessly on this call. Teams navigated rivers, utilized ropes and safety equipment, and climbed steep terrain in an effort to locate the crash site. This marks the second ATV fatality in the past two months. We urge everyone to wear appropriate safety gear, reduce speed, and ensure familiarity with both your vehicle and the trails before riding."
