[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Park County Takes Action Following Accidental Wastewater Spill in Bailey

*Update* July 25, 2024 - Park County has received notice that Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Water Quality Control Division (WQCD) has confirmation as of Thursday, July 25, 2024, from the Will-O-Wisp Water District licensed operator overseeing the spill, that the impacted Will-O-Wisp property was adequately remediated by McDonald Farms. The Will-O Wisp Water District operator also indicated that they have been in contact with the private home owners that were impacted and they were also satisfied with the clean-up by McDonald Farms.

The WQCD requested actions to protect surface water related to this spill event are complete and WQCD is closing the follow up related to this spill event 2024-0658.

Park County, CO – As reported late last week, Park County is actively addressing an accidental wastewater spill that recently occurred in the Bailey area. We are working diligently with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), although neither have jurisdiction in this matter, to develop a comprehensive plan to mitigate the spill's effects and prevent future incidents.
We understand and deeply empathize with our neighbors who may be experiencing foul odors and other issues related to the spill. Our top priority is to ensure the health and safety of our community, and we appreciate the patience and cooperation of residents during this time.
Park County is committed to transparency and will continue to keep the public informed as we take the necessary steps to address and resolve this situation. We are dedicated to implementing measures that will help avoid similar occurrences in the future.
